Save Drawing as (File Menu) |
www.CAD6.com |
This command saves the current drawing in a given file. The "File Selection" dialog appears in which the file to be used can be specified.
By changing the current file type you can also save the current drawing in another file format, e.g. as DXF, WMF, or EMF file (see also Import and Export Filters). By clicking the "Options" button you can always edit the options of the currently selected file type.
Malz++Kassner CAD6 drawing files usually have the extension .MKD. You can also use other extensions, but this could cause confusion.
You can save either standard or compressed drawings. Compressed drawings are compressed using the standard ZIP compression method and will require about 1/4 the space the standard drawing would have required. In order to save a compressed drawing, select the "Compressed Drawing (*.MKD)" file type in the "File Selection" dialog. Once you have saved a drawing in compressed mode, it will be saved in compressed mode until you explicitly save it uncompressed.
Compressed drawings can be additionally encrypted using a password. To activate or deactivate this password encryption, please use the command Edit > Options > Files.
If you want to edit a compressed drawing outside the application (e.g. using a text editor), you can extract the compressed drawing using the MKUNZIP.EXE application which is located in theMalz++Kassner CAD6directory or any other standard UNZIP utility and then edit it. After editing is finished, you can compress it again using the MKZIP.EXE application or any other standard ZIP utility. Please make sure that the file name of the extracted file remains unchanged!
If you choose to save a drawing which already has a name, a dialog will appear asking whether the new file name should become the current drawing name. In this case, every time the drawing is saved, it is saved in the new file. The new drawing name is shown in the title bar.
Drawing files do not contain Undo and Redo information, which are only available as long as the drawing remains in memory.
