Move Set of Points > Reference Edge - Length (Modify Menu)

www.CAD6.com

This command can be used to move a set of definition points. The movement is determined by entering a reference edge's destination length.

To make the definition points more recognizable, you should turn their display on. This can be done with the Miscellaneous > Display Point Markings or by pressing the '.' key (unless you changed the key assignment).

1.Choose points

Choose the points that shall be moved. Click on points to choose them.

Definition points in Construction Aid endless lines and beams can only be chosen if both check boxes "Point markings" and "Also for Construction Aid" in the "Additional Information" area of the "Screen Settings" dialog are active. Otherwise, they will be ignored.

2.Identify straight edge

Any straight edge in an existing object can be identified as a reference edge.

3.Enter destination length of the reference edge

After identifying the reference edge, a dialog appears, in which the desired destination lengths of the reference edge can be entered. It will be initialized with the current length of that edge. The duplicate function can be turned on locally for this command by enabling the "Duplicate" check box.

Once activated, the duplicate function in this dialog remains active until explicitly deactivated again to simplify repeating operations.

Important: Exactly one of the reference edge's two end points must be among the chosen points. IF none or both of the end points are among the chosen points, this command cannot work!

The possibilities which can result from moving individual definition points are varied. The consequences are equally various and can be unexpected. Many definition points have a close relationship to other definition points and can only be moved in certain ways. Under some circumstances, some definition points can not be moved because of object parameter settings. Be sparing in the use of moving individual definition points.

Particularly interesting is the relative movement of multiple definition points, for example to move the end and corner points of several lines and rectangles at the same time. To do this, all corner and end points are selected and then moved (see graphic).
