Getting Your Private Owner ID (How to Create a Plug-In)

When creating a "commercial" plug-in using the CAD6interface, you will require your personal owner ID and a three-character identification string. Both are required to clearly identify a plug-in and all data created by that plug-in.

If you create "personal" plug-ins that will not be distributed, or if you are only experimenting with the CAD6interface, you can use a trial owner ID of 9999 and the identification string XYZ. Both will never be used by any commercial plug-in, so there will be no conflicts on your machine. Anyway, as soon as you want to pass such a plug-in to friends or colleagues, or even sell it, you should first get and implement your private owner ID to avoid any conflict with other plug-ins!

You will have to state your private owner ID during the initialization of each plug-in and within some structures passed to the serving application. The three-character identification is to be used to build the plug-in's file name. This is necessary because plug-in file names have to be unique. Especially if a plug-in relies on an additional language-dependent DLL (usually named similar to the main DLL), the user will not be able to simply rename plug-ins that use equal file names.

Please include the following data in your request:

• The phrase "Owner ID Request" in the topic

• Your complete name

• Your company's name

• The exact name, version number, and license number of your application

• Complete mail address

• Phone and fax numbers (optional)

• E-mail address

For registered users of a Malz++Kassner application including the CAD6interface, this service is free of any charge, as long as all communication between you and Malz++Kassner is via e-mail.

If you would prefer to get a specific three-character identification (rather than an identification created by us), please state it. If possible, we will reserve this identification for you! A good idea would be also to include a short description of the plug-in(s) you plan to create. This allows us to inform you if such a plug-in is already available (or in development by someone else), and it keeps us informed about what types of plug-ins are most commonly requested. This will help us to improve the CAD6interface to suit exactly your needs!

Plug-ins based on the CAD6interface may be developed, distributed and sold royalty-free. If you have developed a plug-in of common interest and would like to have it distributed, contact us! If you want to distribute it on your own, we can at least include a description of it in our plug-in catalog.
