Snap (Methods)

During drawing it is usual to orient yourself to preexisting construction points, such as edges, corners and intersections. To make use of the points within these objects, there are several snapping modes.

If the snap function is active during point entry, then the position of the point will be calculated automatically if it lies within the snap radius. If several points lie within the snap radius, the crosshairs will always be placed on the nearest one.

The snap function is permanently turned on or off using the Extra > Snap Modes > Snap Active (F6) command. In addition, snap mode can be briefly turned on with the SHIFT key.

At Options > Window, you can switch a snap preview on and off, which, when snapping is active, already shows which point would be snapped from the current position while the crosshairs are being moved.

Using buttons in the Panel, single snapping modes can be toggled:

Snap Mode "Midpoint" (see Snap Modes > Center)

Snap Mode "Corner / End Point" (see Snap Modes > Corner / End Point)

Snap Mode "Intersection" (see Snap Modes > Intersection)

Snap Mode "Quadrant" (see Snap Modes > Quadrant)

Snap Mode "Special Point" (see Snap Modes > Special Point)

Snap Mode "Edge" (see Snap Modes > Edge)

Snap Mode "Relative" (see Snap Modes > Relative)

The Dynamic Snapping Aid allows to create additional, temporary Snapping Aid objects during point input that can be snapped along with all other objects. By default, the Snapping Aid is called using the "`" key (the upper left key below the ESC key).
