Collections and Pinboard
Collections and the Pinboard offer a universal way to store a variety of non-graphical information for later reference in the drawing, locally on your computer, or in the local network.
They both can hold a virtually unlimited number of items such as:
- Colors
- Layer names and/or layer definitions
- Pen names and/or pen definitions
- Texts
- Font types
- Filters
- Text searchs
- File names
- Color gradients
- Arrow types
- Settings of plug-ins
and much more.
The Pinboard is used for short-term, local, and fast storing and retrieving, while Collections are normally used for long-term, global storing and retrieving. Items pinned to the Pinboard don't have names, they will be sorted by their time of pinning - the item pinned last will be on top of the list. The Pinboard is stored in a local file on your computer, being accessible concurrently by all application windows on any one computer. Items added to a Collection always get a unique name by which they can be identified at a later time. Each collection is stored in an external file (*.MKCOL) that can be located anywhere on your PC or in the network, being accessible from all over your network.
Both is accessed via most existing dialog windows and lists in the application. Some of them contain an explicit button with a Pin:
